When pSXAuthor is done with the PSX emulation, he/she/it( ) should add suport for .psf files. that would be super awesome. ;D

With the work that would involve (if he modifies the BIOS CD Player to play them), he'd be better off writing a standalone music player for .psf and .minipsf files. And if he ever did that (which would be very cool), I hope he'd make the music player design look like the CD Player in most PAL versions of the Playstation (the silver menu and such... a much nicer look).

Personally I think the time could be better spent elsewhere. Neill Corlett's plugin is more or less as good as it gets. We don't really need another player out there.
However, Neill himself would prob have no problem releasing the source to Author

I'd just need to make a cut down version of the pSX core. I don't really plan to work on this yet though.

Yeah, I gotta work on that Winamp theme... been forgetting to do that. Sorry patrickp... you'll have to wait a bit longer. But I will start looking into it tonight, to see how much work it would take. I'll probably end up starting out making a "classic" Winamp theme, then go onto making a "modern" theme. I'm not all too sure of how necessary a modern theme would be though, because a classic style should be more than enough to create the simple design of the PAL BIOS CD player.
@psx Author: Yeah, I was thinking after you were done with pSX (or near done). It would only make sense to perfect sound emulation in the emulator before creating a program to play music...
I love Highly Experimental, but it's only a plugin. There are times when I prefer to use a program like Media Player Classic (if you think that's the old Windows Media Player, type "Media Player Classic" into google and get this awesome player) to quickly play a few songs. Winamp can be... demanding of resources at times, and having its priority level at "Normal" causes skipping when I'm doing a bunch of things at once (and setting the buffer higher causes too much lag between songs for my taste). A simple standalone player for .psf and .minipsf files would be perfect. It could even be made to support some common music formats (.mp3, .m4a/.aac, etc). There would probably be some pretty good demand for something like that. Or better yet, *good* support for other system formats (.gsf, .usf, .spc, .gym, etc)... some of the plugins for these formats have horrible methods of playing/displaying the songs.

Winamp FTL. foobar2000 FTW. If you want a basic, "standalone," very lightweight player, you can always get foo_psf, drop the DLL into foobar2000's components directory, remove all other DLLs besides foo_ui_std.dll, and you're ready to go. Used a whopping 2.4MB RAM when I just tested that Then, if you want to increase the capabilities a bit, you can move some of the plugins back in. Heck, even with all the plugins around and in use, foobar2000 used a measly 8MB RAM when I last tried. I know it's just using another plugin-based player, but you have to realize that when MPC plays stuff, it's still using "plugins" by using the DirectShow filters and codecs.

@gm: classic skin is fine with me; in fact, my favourite Winamp skin, the Quad 33 one, is a classic skin. And, yes, Media Player Classic is an excellent player. I particularly like the Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative versions, which to a large extent can replace those ill-conceived necessities. Ultima: I've been meaning to check out foobar but never got round to it; I've certainly heard good things about it.

You could also check out XMPlay, I think it pretty much supports every winamp plugin ever, and is actually much better than winamp (if you ask me that is). Though, I use foobar as my main player too. Because it rocks.

Ultima: I wasn't implying that MPC didn't use plugins... merely that it uses a lot less resources than Winamp for the same performance. I don't mind plugins... I love plugins when it comes to things like music players and such... it's how much Winamp sucks up resources that I have a problem with (though I've always looked past it because Winamp can play nearly *anything* with the right plugins). I have the Real Alternative version, because I have Quicktime 7 Pro installed on my computer (mainly for making AAC+ ringtones and songs for my phone, the Sanyo SCP-8400, which just came out). Out of all the programs and encoders for .m4a that I've tried, Quicktime 7 seems to be the easiest to use, in addition to being the most compatible and highest quality encoder I've found for making the ringtones. It has the exact options I would want to change for encoding the songs. I will have to check out foobar... it sounds interesting. patrickp: Classic it will be then. I stopped using classic skins a long time ago, but I will get back into it. I rather enjoy my custom colors for the default modern skin (which I paid for with hours of trial-and-error to find out which variables controlled what elements of Winamp... find "color-presets.xml" in "\Winamp\Skins\Winamp Modern\xml\" and open it with Wordpad/Notepad to see what I mean).
