I was wondering if it was possible to make a standalone audio/image/video player using resources from pSX? Or instead, it would be nice to have those functionalities in pSX itself. I think that pSX has a strong enough foundation that can be used to make a standalone audio/video player program dedicated to playing audio/images/video from PlayStation discs and possibly converting them to standard formats that can be understood by other media players. The thought came to mind when I wanted to show some friends the cool ending videos to certain games like Resident Evil 3 and some endings from Tekken games but the other programs out there for playing PS video crashed too much. There are some really nice programs out there that also do this but they were never finished, crashed a lot, and were very buggy. Some of the ones that i liked werePSmplay and PSXPlay. Just a suggestion. Some of the audio/video for the PS can be found here: www.zophar.net/utilities/psxutil.html

Back when I used these kind of tools a bit more, I used the free version of PSXMC quite a bit. It has a very bad english translation, but it never crashed on me and the conversions worked as well.

Mm... Seeing as how games are allowed to store data in arbitrary formats, I'm not sure pSX can be made into a general audio/video player. I'd imagine it's still up to the game to tell pSX how to read the files.

PSXMC is fairly good. It can only stream very particular content, though. Most Squaresoft games are compatible, but there are a number of others that aren't. As for audio, it can generally only read something stored as a WAVE file. (such as songs containing lyrics, or voice-overs)

I just noticed this thread. Actually, we had a discussion about this quite a while ago (I think it was in one of the Vib Ribbon threads from when it was first made to work in pSX). Of course, it wasn't as detailed as what you're talking about (and I'm not saying you shouldn't have started this thread... it just reminded me that there was a similar discussion a while ago). I think pSX Author even commented on it... something about it being possible, but not until well after he "perfects" pSX. Don't quote me on that though... you'll have to search out the specifics on that yourself...

It seems like there is a lot of stuff that will be on hold until pSX gets perfected. I just hope that pSX Author is writing down the good stuff. We really should make a thread of a lot of the good requests that were made in the past. It would be a shame for all of those good requests to be forgotten in the hundreds of pages of the now discontinued request threads.

Hm, that's sorta what the known requests thread is for -- to keep an index of the more notable/frequently-requested stuff

There were some good requests that weren't asked that much that didn't make it to the known requests though. I forgot what most of them were since didn't really keep note of them though.

:/ Sorry about that. I guess I really haven't been doing my job too well lately. I've been... really busy and stressed lately. And in my free time, I'm working on a project that a few members here keep pestering me to work on... LOL. My only hope is to actually make some useful progress soon... ::rolls eyes::
