So who's going to do it? There are round about 1,500 members here, unless we have another purge - even then, the membership will still be well in excess of 1,000.
Only the admins here have access to all email addresses (that is, including those where the member has, sensibly, chosen to hide their addresses - including you two!) and I'm not sure any of us will want to take on the task.
Whoever does it would have to have access to all members' email addresses, which means they would have to be a well-established and trusted member. So, it's going to need someone who a) is prepared to take the time and trouble to do it, b) is a responsible, trusted member of the community and c) has access to and is prepared to use a mail service that permits that sort of volume of traffic.

Mailing List
Only those who are interested and subscribe to the newsletter will receive it.
Not everyone in this forum are interested in the newsletter and nobody is asking you to extract all users email address from the forum admin(s) without the forum users giving the go ahead. Further more, it would be stupid to disclose our email address openly in the forum be it here or all other forums.

Well I do know that an Admin has the capability to send an E-mail to all accounts on the board, but thats ALL users. Now, this newsletter is very interesting to me and I wouldn't mind looking into my options with my web host (for my site) and see whats possible. If I'm capable of so, I may do it myself or will provide the necessary things to someone to do so. I'll look into it tomorrow and decide.
EDIT: Seems I can handle a newsletter from a mailing list, but I need to configure some things first and its not that clear on what to set. Also I'm still not sure if I want write the newsletter yet, but I'll see abut that later.

I second this idea. Maybe the newsletter could include things like:
Release news, issues at hand, requested features, etc.

I'm not sure how RSS feeds work but maybe it would be easier to create a newsfeed somewhere instead of doing it by email.
Personally I don't see the need for a newsletter, all the information in it would come from this forum anyway.

In some board systems there is a possibility to get rss feed from specific forum areas. PunBB atleast, I'm not sure if it comes with the default package, or if it's an extension. But anyway, if we ever switch from proboards to something else, the option is out there.

PunBB doesn't use RSS feeds (at least not by default), but it does allow users to subscribe to threads and get emailed on update.

So it's an extension then. In a punbb forum I moderate we have it, so it must be possible.
