When I play Final Fantasy 7, I experience strange issues with the sound effects. Most of the sounds affected seem to be type that use "noise" (the battle sequence intro swish, for example). Did anybody else encounter this or find a way to remedy it?

This is has been mentioned before, but... most people are comparing against other emulators which don't even emulate frequency modulation.
To fix this (if it is indeed wrong) I would need to compare against a REAL ps1... not another emulator (which are probably all wrong).
If someone can send me a recording of what its supposed to sound like from a real PS1 I might be able to help.

Ok recored a video with sound of Final Fantasy VII running on a PS2. I am not sure if it is 100% the same a running on a PS1. Duration of the videoclip is 3:00 and playing through the start of the game with 2 battles. I also recorded menu sound effects etc. hope it helps you out. here is the link s23.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1G2GXH3I1KE470RNUPR2NV84GQ(6 mb, Xvid)

If it helps any, from my ears, it sounds like some of the noise generated by the FM synthesis either has the wrong envelope or is playing at the wrong pitch.
I say this because it seems like many or these affected sounds might be created by very rapid envolope "trills" of sorts, or even very high frequency synthesis. If the pitch was off, that would lead to lower frequencies (which I think leads to longer durations in FM synthesis). This could be causing the different little bursts of sound to be leaking into one another.
I appologize for the long-winded post, especially since this is all hair-brained conjecture and I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

I would like to hear the start of Chrono Cross... up to (and including) the first battle (spell sounds, etc..). I have now made FF7 sound almost exactly like the video, but now CC sounds odd to me... it might be right though!

Chrono Cross Capture (4:45 , 640x480 , 51.6mb) I know, I have no idea what buttons I'm pressing. Left the audio in 320kbps mp3 and encoded the video in 1200kbps XviD (I figured I may as well do something to complement the stupidly high bitrate audio )...so..yea...sorry for the size and such. (disclaimer: this was actually captured using a PS2 because I can't find my damn PS1 If that makes the video useless to you, then download it anyway and laugh at me trying to figure out buttons)

i havent tried ff7 in psx emu yet, but i can tell you that in epsxe it has sound issues and graphic slowdown while entering into a fight sequence. right before the fight hud comes up. it really is annoying as heck lol.

I don't know if it's related but both Vagrant Story and Xenogears have problems with "static" sounds. The first for the sounds of the steps as you move around, the latter is really noticeable and just as you start the game, after the FMV.
