Using psx 1.4 on default settings, bios scph1001.bin and a clone cd of FF VIII US ID#: SLUS-00892/PSRM-014810. Everything was working smoothly until Edea kills the president during the assassination sequence.
As she moves off screen, the game hung and the emulator began scrolling messages - r3000: executed illegal opscode and a series of numbers, also something about an illegal physical address.
Is this a compatibility issue, or my problem?
Thanks for the help.

It's a compatibility issue with pSX..it's a known issue already.

fixed in v1.6
i was fast-forwarding at the time, not sure if that has anything to do with it passing.
it passed that scene, started the next fmv, then switched to quistis's party in the mansion. seems to be working fine after that.

If you get to disc 2 successfully, can you inform us of that too? Thanks =]

Made it to disc two with no real problems. Game froze after I completed saving at the disc-switch save point, and when I put disc 2 in, loaded the save, everything worked fine.
SLUS-00892, in case you wondered.

I haven't experienced shutters on the FMVs, in fact ther are smoother than other emulators.
But I don't think the game is perfect though. Some sounds are WAY diferent than the real PSX, and the battle transition looks weird. Other than that, I haven't noticed anything wrong.

Battle transitions and choppiness in FMV's was reported for v1.0 testing, but not really since.
I wonder if it's an occurance with n1ckn4m3's computer, for some reason, rather than a general issue with the game? Somebody else would have to test to find out. Haven't received other reports of sounds being an issue, but I'll include it in the next update anyways.

As far as sounds are concerned, the only sound that I know of that doesn't sound correct is the 'intro to battle' sound. i.e., the sound that it makes the second that you enter a battle while the fade is still showing. It seems as though it lasts way too long. If necessary, I'm sure I could hook my PS2's output to my PC and record what the battle intro sound sounds like directly from the PS2.
The stuttering only seems to occur on long fmv sequences (the fmv where squall is on the boat for his first real mission is an example, the dancing scenes during the parade at the end of disc one as well), and only affects the video. The sound remains intact, but every 5 seconds the video hangs for a fraction of a second. As I mentioned on the other thread, I'm quite open to the possibility of it being on my machine only.
Let me know if you need anything else.

As far as sounds are concerned, the only sound that I know of that doesn't sound correct is the 'intro to battle' sound. Some GF summoning sounds are louder or with a higher pitch, some enemies atacks are diferent and the noise of that blue thingy where you fight Bahamut is weird.

So what is the solution? I am running V1.6 using the save states from V1.5 and now I can't even get to the part where it crashes after the Pres. death. I keep getting data dumps. Do I have to start the game over again for it work in V1.6? If so is there anyone out there that can give me v1.6 save state so I can see that it works before I start over? Man this is just what you hope doesn't happen. Oh well.
