I might as well ask before actually running to check, but is this on their main website or posted someplace else? And are you kidding or serious? I'm interfacing entirely by keyboard at the moment, so it takes just a little longer to do things, and I'm getting off anyway, so I figure asking and getting an answer will remind me to check later anyway... XD

it's actually said on their main page.... no more details anyway, just that they decided to resume the work on ePSXe in summer 2007. it's really an unexpected good news : as before starting to play with PS2 Emu, i wished to see a near perfect PSX at last... with both pSX and ePSXe alive, we can have high hopes. Maybe the critical success of pSX make them think about resuming their work ?

Near perfect? You forgot to name Xebra then.

Depends on the machine. It should be playable on anything that is better than a 2500+ Athlon. And ePSXe can be slower, depending on what plugins you use. Of course it is great that ePSXe is back Now only FPSE needs another windows release and PS1 emulation is back in its former glory.

Last version of EPSXE added WAY more bugs that fixes. Thats why I still use 1.5.2. I'm not looking forward for the next version. Specially now that I have an emulator that doesn't need tinkering and extra patience.

Well I, for one, am looking forward to it. Despite pSX being my primary (and by far favorite) PS1 emulator, I do like playing with ePSXe occasionally.
I see Koudelka is shown as one of the games that should be working better. That'll be neat, it's a really good game... ^^

I abruptly stopped using ePSXe when someone announced that pSX could run Tekken 3. To be different from everyone else at NGEmu, I can't stand the 'pretty' up-scaled graphics and abysmal speeds when a framebuffer item comes up on a non-NVIDIA card (put Tekken 2 on and fight against Devil with the mirror on screen, with a slightly older ATI card like my 9550 (or a 9700). No such slowdowns in pSX (use 1.7 for that game), or even in MAME for that matter!
I just wish someone would code a fast and accurate software GPU plugin for the PSEmu Pro based system. The only two 'real' ones I know of have been dead and buried for at least 5 years. One is called Kazzuya's plugin and the other is called E}I{'s plugin. These days, there's really only Pete's plugins (that includes PEOpS, what do you think the P means?), or none. I don't count Dr.Hell's GDI plugin, it has to be somewhat usable in full screen mode and take screenshots - to PNG (the standard for screenshots), not BMP or JPEG or any other crap, and not stretched - if the game's designed for a low resolution display it should be taken at its native graphics mode, not at 1920x1440 or some other rubbish.

It's hard for me to consider a 9550 or 9700 "old", especially considering my 9250 PCI card is still suitable for many current PC games.
I have a similar wish in wanting a *good* software-based plugin for those emulators. And the only reason I would want software is because every hardware plugin I've tried, despite the settings, give horribly quality to text in most games (try playing Final Fantasy Tactics or Tales of Phantasia on any of the halfway decent hardware-based plugins). So I'm usually forced to use a slow software-based plugin.
@heihachi: Haven't you tried Pete's software-based plugin (the latest, open-source one I mean)? I have that one and Kazzuya's software plugin... nothing good to say really about the Kazzuya one, but the other works pretty decently (though it obviously could be a lot better).

What speaks against jpeg and bmp for screenshots You can easily batch convert them to png later.

I find .png to be more of an annoyance than anything else. It seems to have a more confusing compression scheme than .jpg (as in, it seems like the compression rating you choose doesn't really do much). I personally prefer .bmp, since it's basically loseless, and I can choose exactly what I want to do with it when the time comes, especially since it's rare to see screenshot options come with any choice of compression. That's sort-of like ripping audio/video and having no choice for what bitrate it'll be at. I'd rather choose the format that provides loseless extraction, and then I can choose later what lossy format to put it in, and choose exactly how much compression I want.

Ahh... that would explain the crappy compression ratios. But see, then it's like using .ape or .flac for audio. I like those even less than lossy compression.

It's all dependent on your specific needs. In certain cases (like repeated colors -- screenshots of standard Windows applications, for example), PNG compresses down a hell of a lot better than JPEG ever could.
