Game Title: Soul Blade NTSC Game ID(s): SLUS-00240 pSX Version(s): pSX v.1.13
Hello Everyone,
I Just beat Soul Blade Arcade Mode. Here are some problems with it.
1).In the main menu fps drops to 9fps although it seems fine when your scrolling through the menu.
2).In the ending when you have to enter your initials the x button becomes turbo.

A bit of an update, I can verify the Main Menu Frame Rate problem. Also I encountered another problem where Edge Master Mode locks up on the first Match for every character in either 4 errors or an infinite loop.
I copied the log box from start to lock up:
IoControl: Using SPTI (Full subcode) CDROM: Using IoControl translate_address: illegal physical address 340200e0 translate_address: illegal physical address a2220011 translate_address: illegal physical address 02402821 translate_address: illegal physical address 0c009465
Ran from CD and Image (MDF/MDS) and the same issues. Used the PSOne BIOS (version 4.5) and thats about it.

Try using ASPI instead, Truth. IOControl does seem to have problems reading some Playstation CDs, even with drives that are fully capable of reading the subcode sectors.

Same result and already have SPTD up-to-date, but I discovered some specifics for the bug.
The bug only occurs when you Start the battle from reading the "BOOK", say where it says "PRESS START>>BATTLE". And to avoid the lockup, press x to exit from that page, and select "BATTLE" from the world menu.

How about ASPI, Truth?
About the only thing I use Windows for now is ripping, and I find there are protected games (eg Final Fantasy IX) that I can't read with IOControl (admittedly, I don't have SPTI installed) but wich read perfectly in ASPI. Link to the Nero version above.

I already tried ASPI (copied from my up-to-date Nero 8 folder) and its the same. So far its the only crash/lockup I've found, its just not game stopping since it can be worked around in-game.

The compatibility for Soul Blade is terrible.
Just tried different stuff. I played Arcade, Edge Master Mode and went through the option menu.
My Experiences:
- Heavy sound glitches, sound / voice loop (like "So-So-So-So-So-So-Soul-Soul-ul-ul Bl-Bl-Bl-Bl-Bla-Blad-Blade-Blade") -- might be fixed if I mess with sound settings, have to try (?) - Speed problems (when I play Edge Master Mode, it's like Soul Edge on speed when I stay on the world map - everything, including sound, is way too fast. After I enter a battle, the FPS drop - it's playable, but slower than it's supposed to be - I played with around 50 FPS)
I played the game directly from the disc - I'll try to make a backup from the disc on my hdd, maybe it helps...

Hello,
I have been trying to run this game on both ePSXe and psX and have been getting the same errors with both. The only difference is that ePSXe shows an Opcode error instead of an IoControl one when entering a battle within the Edge Master book. Anyway, Truth speaks the truth! (No pun intended) By following his method, I was able to circumvent the error although I still find it highly tedious to have to exit the book every time to start the battle. Another error Truth hasn't mentioned is that starting a battle directly from the weapon select screen also produces an Opcode conflict.
In any case, I've also tried running the PAL and NTSC-J versions of the game but still received the identical error. What could be the cause of this? I doubt it's because of a corrupted image as I recall running the same files flawlessly before a few system formats.
