there's something I noticed that I didn't before (or maybe not as much), because it was either less apparant in previous versions or the type of games played, but the input delay when using a gamepad in pSX seems rather big (maybe with keyboard also, but it seems less or not). I noticed this especially when playing some more fast-paced games/games that require quick movement recently (like for example, Gradius Gaiden and Megaman X4 (it probably applies to similar games as well)). I notice this with a dualshock+smartjoy on my laptop. It only happened in this particular emulator too.... is there a way too perhaps get that delay a little smaller? Also, did anyone else notice? It's simply that there's a very short interval between pushing a button and the reaction on screen. Normally this delay would be neglible, but in pSX it affects gameplay quite a bit, because it's slightly larger.

Are you sure you haven't been playing with your video driver settings? On ATI and NVidia cards there is an option which allows the driver to buffer as many frames ahead as it wants which would cause exactly this issue.
Nothing has changed to do with input since v1.4.

well, it could've been in 1.4 as well. With certain games it's less noticeable. Also, I did not alter any driver settings.

It could be SmartJoy I suppose - can you try keyboard and see if it has the same kind of delay?
btw: do you have vsync enabled or disabled? If its disabled there may be less CPU time available for SmartJoy.. maybe its that. You could try adjusting the priority of SmartJoy from task manager (if it shows up as a process that is).

I've also noticed a slight delay on input (legend of dragoon's addition system), but I haven't had the time to mess with it. I also have a smartjoy plus, so when I finish the reformat of my computer, I'll take a shot at trying to figure out the best way to lessen it..... If you wanna wait on me, you'll have to wait until at least tomorrow afternoon, though......

Vsync's on here (in fact, one of my favourite things about pSX is that it's syncing nicely out of the box, something that I could never get quite right in any other pSX emulator, despite trying more than a few configurations) - it seems it's a good idea to try a different gamepad/keyboard and see what that does. I'll do that, and post here if that makes a difference.

tested, and it happens with any controller. The fact I didn't notice before is because it's quite a small difference, but really noticeable when controlling something like the ship in gradius.
But I found a fix (sort of), The problem is gone when turning vsync OFF. That's kinda odd though, isn't it? (and I'd prefer to have it on, since that looks better) I'll re-check my videocard driver settings as well, just in case... *edit* the driver I use doesn't seem to offer such tweaking options - it's an older ATI driver. Also, I tried to see if I could notice a difference turning vsync on/off in a few other emulators, but they do not seem to suffer from the same problem. I'll try to test if it happens on other computers as well...
