Hi, my problem is one of many I keep having with these psx to pc emulator games. Its probably really simple, but I can't understand why the emulator app won't even open. It is unzipped in my C: (windows). Can't run it from command. Double clicking just gives a flash of the ms-dos screen to open. Can't see what it says.
I just wanted to play FF Tactics. I'm not concerned with the BIOS. Is this something to do with my graphics card? Can't imagine it would stop a program from opening. Help!

What OS are you using, terrarosa - it's obviously a Windows one? Some Windows OSs may well prevent you running an executive file from the Windows folder.
Try decompressing it somewhere else - your My Documents folder, for instance. You shouldn't have any file permission problems there.
On the other hand, it may well be a graphics or sound card problem - since you haven't told us anything about the system you're trying to do this on, we can only guess. Post a description of your system, and also try starting pSX from a command line window so any error messages will persist - what do you mean by "Can't run it from command?"

I'm running home XP SP2 on a laptop with a pentium 4. I have an ATI mobility radeon 9000 igp. I have the files saved in both C: directory and buried in the my documents and both will not open. I relearned those basic dos commands (haven't done those since I was 8) and can't run them in command. I get to the directories, type in the file.exe, and nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Thank you for your time.

I presume you're trying to run the right file - it's psxfin.exe for the Windows version, terrarosa? Did you re-extract the pSX files into your My Documents or copy the ones you had in your Windows folder (not necessarily a good idea to run from there or from Program Files in XP or Vista because of permissions problems)? If you copied them over, they will likely have taken the permissions with them - and also may not permit you to change them. Check the file permissions for your pSX folder and contents in My Documents anyway and, if you have to change them, go back and check again, since you may not be allowed to change them but not be warned. Do you not even get any message in the command line window when you can't start pSX? What driver are you using for your videocard and what soundcard are you using? Are they both working properly; in particular, can you play 3D games? Try updating your DirectX 9.0c installation - older versions of DirectX 9.0c will not run pSX.

Thank you very much Patrickp. It seemed to be the DirectX. Great news! Cheers!

Ah, you usually get an error message when it's DirectX, terrarosa - maybe not this time!

I must ask for this one, as it recently happened to me. Should a similar page be stickied for the people who can't get pSX to start up?
On my case, it was pSX crashing on load with the *gasp* original DX9c release, which was somehow installed over the later one (possibly by me testing a really old game). A quick upgrade to the latest version of DirectX and everything worked fine again!
