Hmm...? You mean like it won't play at all in pSX? Could you maybe give more details, as you now have me curious exactly what you mean.

LMAO... so true. Or he could hook up both speakers to the left speaker. Or use a diplexer/combiner for the speakers off one speaker if RCA connectors are being used. So many options to choose from...

Very well, but you still haven't said anything about what the actual problem is.
Describe what happens when you switch to mono in pSX.
Then describe what should happen when you switch to mono (ie what happens on a real Playstation that has stereo speakers connected to it).

Well what *should* happen is that you'll still hear everything, but it'll all come out of both speakers instead of hearing any variance between speakers.
I just tested the settings with Star Ocean 2 by starting a new game, which lets you set the sound mode before starting. The opening movie utilizes stereo sound (left speaker plays the higher pitched sounds while the right speaker plays the lower pitched sounds), and when I set it to mono, I heard everything in both speakers individually, same as the real PS1 does.
So basically, the sound settings all worked perfectly fine for me.

Are you running your Playstation from the AV Multi Out socket, softm?

There is no hardware mechanism in the PS1 that I know of that would enable stereo XA to be played as mono...
So I recommend testing what happens on a real PS1 - you'll probably find that the XA still plays as stereo there too.
Note: there are also mono XA formats which some games use - pSX emulates this just fine (eg. the Lunar games use this for speech).

it seems psxcdrom can control 4 XAvolumes...
it seems games set 4 XAvolumes use 7 steps...
step1 write 0x02 to cdromreg0
step2 write XAvolume1 to cdromreg2
step3 write XAvolume2 to cdromreg3
step4 write 0X03 to cdromreg0
step5 write XAvolume3 to cdromreg1
step6 write XAvolume4 to cdromreg2
step7 write 0X20 to cdromreg3

So it's a bad thing that you get stereo sound rather than mono, then, softm?
Anyway, what the heck led you to start this thread in Game Compatibility? This is not any kind of game report.
Thread moved to Emulator Problems as completely irrelevant to Game Compatibility - patrickp
