PCSXBox uses only software rendering/plugins and it runs pretty well. Castlevania SOTN, for example, runs at 60fps about 95% of the time. It's very possible for pSX to run just as well (or better). xport.xbox-scene.comI'd certainly like to give it a shot.

I really don't like the Xbox. So I never knew there was a PSX emulator for it. That, I have to admit is pretty cool. I did, however, know that the Xbox DOES have the power to emulate PSX fully. Or at least, as close to "full" as it's possible to get, as emulators are NEVER 100% perfect.

It would be awesome to get an Xbox port of one of the best emulator's available!! It's one of the most requested projects over at Xbox Scene. Please consider

it seems alot of people are asking for the source on these forums lately... Indeed a lot of people are asking for it, I know for sure that the GP2X homebrew console also asked for it to use on their new emulator... as far as I know PSX_author never replyed, might be due to lack of time or even interest but still each pSX emu release is for the fans not for him (obviously). But hey it's his source, and his hardwork, I wouldn't censure him for not giving away the source no matter what. See, if he gives it for one project more people will request it, next there will be people from PSP homebrew scene asking for it (their PSone emu service is a paid one), then people from the Wii console (in which I would certainly love to see this emulator). See where I'm heading? once made a exception that will become the assumption of the path to take when people ask for the code.

Well count my vote for this port, I am even willing to donate to both the porting programmer as well as the author.

I hate to be "flamey" but it just seems like that's not exactly the direction anyone should go with the pSX or any other emulator, this is a highly biased personal opinion but I just think it'd be a disgrace to have a psx emu ported to xbox :/ Discrace? It is video games. Seriously what is the difference between having a psx emu on the pc, or a console (and lets not get into the legality of it, because both systems will fail that test). That being said, thanks for the awesome psx emu for the pc (would love to see it on the xbox too).

In what way would both systems fail a test of their legality, foehammer? Surely, Sony's attempts to stop Connectix VGS and Bleem! established that Playstation emulation itself is legal (their subsequent demises were due to the actions that Sony took, certainly, but this does not alter the fact that the courts found for the emulator producers, not for Sony).
As I see it, if a person downloads an emulator such as pSX, installs it on their PC (or does the same on their XBox with a hypothetical XBox port), rips the BIOS from their own Playstation for use with it, and uses either of these setups to play games that they have obtained legitimately, they are perfectly within the law.
If it were not so, you can bet your bottom dollar that Sony, for one, would waste no time closing down every PS1 emulation site hosted in any country where they could obtain the required legal purchase.
But we're having this discussion on a site dedicated to a particular PS1 emulator and linked to a site where this same emulator can be downloaded - for which we are all eternally grateful! ;-D
However, I agree with your other point - I think even those of us (well, almost all...) who don't have an XBox would have no objections to a version ported to that platform - I would think that even pSX Author's reasons for not doing so/allowing it to be done have nothing to do with any objection to XBox users being able to run the emulator on their console of choice.

ummm, Actually, Bleem ran out of money so they dropped the case (but they were actually wining, since they hadn't used ANY Sony code, if they had had deep pokets, bleem would have won)...Sony wasn't awarded a ruling. As for VGS, Sony Bought them out...again, no ruling...
just because Sony attempted to stop them doesn't prove they are illegal, it just Proves Sony didn't like it...lol
***Edit***
Sorry Patrick, I misread your statement, thought you said it showed they were illegal..lol

No problem, medieval ;-D
Actually, AIR judgements _were_ given in both cases, and both for the defendants (Sony, of course brought both suits). However, the costs involved damaged Bleem! so badly the company couldn't continue and, as you said, VGS were unable to resist being bought out by Sony, with the obvious result.
The courts _did_ find against VGS in one respect, i.e. the use of a specific piece of code (not identified but probably a PS1 BIOS). Remember that you didn't need a BIOS to run VGS? It must have been included in the emulator. In all other respects, the courts found for Bleem! and VGS, which establishes that, in the US at least, PS1 emulation that doesn't use any of Sony's code is legal. It doesn't establish that it's legal anywhere else in the world, but the subsequent lack of action by Sony's lawyers against any emulator writers elsewhere (some are clearly based in Japan, for instance) would suggest they think it's unlikely they would win.
Sony have demonstrated that they will go to unreasonable lengths (incuding the use of illegal and pirated software themselves) to protect what they see as their 'property.' I don't think there's much doubt they would pursue other emulator writers if they thought they could win. They don't seem to have seriously considered action against any PS2 emulator writers yet, and that's something that probably would be even more sensitive for them than PS1 emulation.

You're right about the find for Sony... I had completely forgotten. Sony was awarded a ruling bacause VGS, in it's emulation, was so good, it emulated the copy protection. I.E. read the data and would only play legal copies. That copy protection is copyrights and the court ruled VGS was violating that copyright by reading the data and using it correctly.
So Sony wqas basically shooting it's own foot, an Emulator that would only play ligit copies and they make them stop...lol

Well, Sony have never hesitated over taking careful aim at their feet - as witness their last year's DRM debacle...
