Game Title: ff7 freezed just before diamond weapon Game ID(s): not known - patrickp* pSX Version(s): 1.13
*Please omit information rather than giving it incorrectly, ivan. Smegforbrain, who maintains the Compatibility Lists from this forum, may be confused or mislead by this - he has enough work to do as it is! - added by patrickp
this is a real tragedy for me. just after i enter the waterfall in the Forgotten City, i get a black screen. i can walk further until i get a brief monologue Bugenhagen about the water being just a screen to project the image, then the screen flashes for a sec and get to see for a moment all of them standing around something that looks like a crystal.. and the screen goes black... nothing is happening, nobody is talking.. i left it there for a couple hours.. and nothing..
this is just terrible for me, this will be my second try to play ff7, first on a playstation, now on a pc, and both are not getting me anywhere! i've been trying to get my hands on this game for the past 10 years =)))
p.s. i can't mount the iso on linux, its giving me some error: unable to identify cd-rom format, so i put in some other game id

You don't need to mount .isos for pSX, ivan - it can play many image formats (.ccd/.img/.sub, .mdf/.mds, .bin/.cue and .iso) directly.

I think he is trying to mount the image to get the game ID, Patrick.
Also, I'm sure your copy is just no good, Ivan. Since the same thing happens on the real console, there's nothing else to do, other than buying another copy of the game.

Ah, didn't notice that, psi! However, someone reported a very similar fault recently - not sure, but I think their problem was a black screen on entering the waterfall (OP says just after - they may both mean the same thing). However, your comment about the integrity of his image may well be correct. ivan: have you tried your image at this point in another emulator? I know ePSXe and PCSX are pigs to set up on linux, but it can be done. It's often worth having one or both set up, even if you don't usually use them, for comparison purposes like this. What format image are you using and how did you rip it? You did say "iso," but a lot of people just use the word as a general reference to a CD image. The filenames for your save states will include the correct game ID. What distribution are you using?

distro: ubuntu 7.10 2.6.22-14-generic SCES_108.67
i got the images off of site names removed - illegal downloading will not be tolerated on this forum - patrickp because my copy of the game was burnt to ashes =((((.
If i would try to use a different emulator, would the saves that i have work with them?
BTW, i put in a different game id, because the forum wouldn't let me post anything without entering one

You should have read prominently displayed at the top of every page in this forum, ivan. Downloading is dumb - not only is this game (and many others) easy and cheap to obtain legally, but downloaded images are frequently badly ripped. This is probably the reason for your problem. Get a decent copy of the game - you can buy it new on ebay or Amazon for £12 or so (about $24) in the UK - US is probably cheaper. If you want to play from an image, rip it yourself - it's the only way to ensure you get a good image. And I suggest you read the 'Forum Rules' and 'Things to Remember when Posting Reports' before posting again - they're linked at the top of every page in the forum. Repetition of this behaviour will earn you a ban.
