I like both games very much. Both have great storylines, so I find it very hard to put one above the other, considering they both have their different reasons for being great.
I never care about graphics, but I can say that CT's graphics are better than CC's graphics at the times of their releases. Besides, there's just something about CT's graphics that always appealed to me that CC never had.
Music... I have to say CT has much better music, despite the greater capabilities that the Playstation/CD had. CT music just seems to have more... emotion to it.
Overall, I would have to vote in favor of CT. Simply because it has a timeless quality that I love. I've played it through more times than I can count on my hands and toes, but I only felt inclined to play through CC twice. I am in no way putting down CC (as it is an awesome game), but I just think that CT has that special "something" that makes it hard to forget, and enjoyable to play no matter how many times I beat it.

I'd have to disagree with you about the music, hoshikuzu. Usually, I don't like game music much (being a bebopper! ;-D). I do like both CT's and CC's music - but definitely prefer CC's.

CT and CC certainly have good storylines and "mood". Some people didn't like the CC storyline so much, but if you keep up with it, you'll find it's actually a very good storyline. CT... I guess you could say it doesn't have the most detailed storyline, but it certainly is very interesting. The multiple endings aspect of both games does a really good job of completing the storylines.

About music : CT has "adventurous" musical track, so as, music corresponds to the pace of action, or some dramatic moments, and whatnot. CC has "enviromental" musical track, which gives better mood to the place action happens in, like volcanic caves, tropical beach, shadowy forest. They have very different purposes, really.
About overrating : the most overrated game in all history is FF7, not CC. Honestly, why people weep about a bad piece of a game it is...i'll never understand.

FF7 is not as overrated as you make it out to be. Its vast importance at the time it was released, combined with the storyline and cool materia system, all combine to make the game timeless. While overrated, there is a lot of basis for people to love the game so much.
Your comments on the Chrono games, I agree with. But for a straight RPG, CT's soundtrack fits better, in my opinion. CC's soundtrack would fit better for an adventure-type game.

I really tried to like Chrono Cross, but I never finished... I became so boring that I quit. It's not near as good as Chrono Trigger. Same feelings for Final Fantasy VII, I didn't like it more than Final Fantasy VI, VIII and IX.

CC's soundtrack would fit better for an adventure-type game. Sometimes I wonder why Final Fantasy 7 is considered soo important. Then I start to think... after a while (yeah, my brain is slow) the answer comes to me: its because it was the first Final Fantasy on a non-Nintendo console, the first one to use CDs, the first one to have FMVs, the first one that used 3d battles... But thats it. FF7 is important indeed, but not because of the game itself. If you take a closer look, you'll notice that there's nothing special about it. Great storyline?? Sure, but FF6 did even better at this aspect. Great game system? Really?? The Materia system is ok, but Final Fantasy 5's system (the job system) is WAY better. Final Fantasy 7 wasn't the first to have a main character that dies, it wasn't the first to have a memorable villain, not the first to have optional bosses and quests... and it doesn't even have real strong and emotional moments like FF6 (well, there's one, but ONLY one). BTW, it was THE only Final Fantasy that didn't made me cry (and I'm a real crybaby). The thing is: FF7 wasn't really important. It was just the right game at the right time. Its a great game, no doubt about it, but NOT special in any way. BTW, I agree with hoshikuzu about CT and CC musics. Even though CC has great songs, they don't seem like they are from a RPG. While the intro music is fantastic, it doesn't set the mood for the game. CT on the other hand has a classic soundtrack. And even though I could never forget the main theme of CT, I can't bring myself to remember ANY of CC's songs. Call me weird, but [snip] weird.... SON OF A ... Now go jump out of a bridge like a good boy!!

FF7 may not have been the first in the aspects you brought up, and it may not have been the best by your points, but it *has* all of that stuff. I'm not saying that FF7 is the best game out of the series because of that, but it definitely gets huge points for bringing all those aspects together. FF7 has soul... lot's of soul. That's part of the reason so many people love it. The three games before it also have a large amount of soul. They bring together many timeless qualities that make them as loved as they are. 10 years from now, many people won't be able to name more than a couple GF's in FF8, they won't be able to name half the characters in FF9... but most people will still be able to name all of Cloud's limit breaks, and they'll still be able to tell you how to get the Illumina in FF6. They are timeless, and no matter how much we argue back and forth on this topic, nothing will take that away from them. FF7, despite being overrated, has what it takes to be near, if not at the top of people's lists of favorite Final Fantasy games.

uhm... i think cc is really overrated... but honestly i am not a big square fan... ct was okay and i finished it, even if the main hero was dead ^^ cc is kind of boring.. The storyline is a bit... strange. The worst thing is, that you have a lot of characters, but only very few really develop( serge and kid a bit...) Furthermore both games offer silent maincharacters... don´t like that The music is good and there are a few really good pieces I think, enix was much much better than square can ever be... if i think only of terranigma... or star ocean. These games are really great It´s now sadly square-enix... The ff games have only the ff hype.. they are good games, but not THAT good. For example, i bought goldgames6... grandia2 was in it i began to play and i couldn´t stop.. this never happens by playing a square rpg, even if ff8 is really nice, but the fight-systems and leveling+ spell-stealing was not that good) (okay it ever happened in star ocean 2+3, tales of symphonia, grandia2, valkyrie profile and the lunar games| oh, not to forget terranigma^^) so the best developers^^: 1.tri ace 2. gamearts 3. namco best publishers: 1:enix 2: working designs and both are practically dead -.-

CT... you bring the main character back to life, so it's all good in the end I have to agree with all those games you listed at the end. All are very good games and are near, if not at the top, of my list of favorite games. I'm actually playing through Star Ocean 3 and Terranigma again now (well, not at this exact moment, but yeah). Enix... was a great company. Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, 7th Saga... and many more that all are great games.

yeah.. i have to play so3 again, but i have played terranigma around 5times until now so i know really everything about it and i think i could finish it by sleeping :> (okay i didn´t found one of the "donation-letters"-persons to build up the destroyed village... but that doesn´t matter
Other good games would be Zone of the enders-the fist of mars (great story and graphics for gba) or fire emblem7 ( the first in usa-europe)... i forgot them earlier.. Riviera was great as well.
all games far better than Chronocross :>

Fire Emblem 4-9 are all better than Chrono Cross. FE1-FE3 are up for argument, though I will sometimes say 'yes' and sometimes say 'no'.
