after playing through it i started asking myself if it really deserved the insane reviews it got. the storyline seemed very fragmented and i felt out of place at times. other times i felt like i didn't understand what was going on at all/got stuck. and i've played through chrono trigger a number of times too and failed to catch all of the references. was i to think that janus = serge? lucca's letter and serge's blue hair... really other than the fact that the story made little sense to me, it was a decent enough game... i guess... the gameplay was neat enough to the point where i didn't mind not being in on what was happening 100% of the time... not to mention the fact i missed alot of characters!

LOL strange, i love this game but thats just me. About the characters: you can play thru the game twice and get totaly differect characters, its weird i never could figure it out. Try searching for a guidebook, if i find one ill post link. You might try emule... you never know what you can find... I won't go into details but some of the stuff is kinda messed up

I'm sorry to say that I think that this game is underrated. I guess I'm the only one that thinks that this one is way better than Chrono Trigger. This one's plot is much better ^^

Not the only one, castilho; I'd mostly agree with you on that and I suspect quite a few others here would, too.
Possibly not so much emphasis for me; I think CC is certainly a better game than CT; don't think I'd say way better, though.

Chross wasnt, isnt, and wont ever be better than Trigger. But its pretty good. Technically wise almost perfect. And the best thing i like about Chross - YOU DONT HAVE TO LEVEL UP ! At all. Unlike those stupid FFs where you cant go on until you gain another n levels.
In Chross you just stroll at your pace, leisurely, having fun on the way...you can level up if you want, but you dont have to, you actually can finish the game avoiding each and every enemy except the bosses. Oh, and you can see the enemys too, so no f**king random encounters ! Way nice !

patrickp - I'm glad there's a few who think like that.
karnot - I would say that the only thing I don't like is that you don't level up...it makes the game too easy...you destroy Bosses and win "levels", that's about the only bad point of it. Also I would say that CC is superiorin pratically every way: Better Plot, Incredible Soundtrack!, the "Fastfoward item" after you finished the game once, so you don't get too bored getting all the endings and some other things.
I won't say anything about the graphics, cause that really is the less important thing.
Well I don't think that will change your mind about that, but that's the way I see it.

Well, each to their own - the world would be a pretty dull place if we didn't disagree sometimes! ;-)
Actually, I believe there is a certain amount of levelling up in Chrono Cross. You've probably noticed that, after you defeat a boss and get a star, your stats increase for a while with each enemy you defeat. I understand that if you don't level up like like this, your stats will not get as high as they will if you do fight and level up.

Yes, easy, but the game is still fun. As opposed to spending hours and hours leveling up no matter if you think its fun or not. Pretty much mandatory. With an insane encounter rate in most cases.

i think the game is very underrated. i won't go so far as to say it is better than chrono trigger, but it is definately a worthy sequel. the plot is a bit confusing at times, i'll agree, but that is from poor translation. maybe not poor, exactly, but some things were lost in translation, i think. i found a really great site about the chronology and plot summarization of the chrono games that really helped me understand the story a lot better. Ah, here it is: www.chronocompendium.comAWESOME site! i spent hours on it. if you thought people were obsessive about the Legend of Zelda timeline, you ain't seen nothin' yet! very facinating site.

imo Chrono Cross is one of the best RPGs on Playstation. It doesn't have the best battle system, but it has really great atmosphere. I never grow tired of playing Chrono Cross. I really hope Square decide to do another game in the series one day... but if they do I really hope they get Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda to work on it.. wouldn't be the same without them. Yasunori Mitsuda is doing a Chrono Cross arrange album later this year which is something to look forward to at least

Okay, I've got it. The story is NOT better than Trigger, but the gameplay, for the most part, is.

Call me weird, but I haven't liked CT nor CC. IMHO both games have too many weak points and not enough strong points:
CT: -Too easy and short; -Forgettable characters; -Not enough emotional or dramatic parts; -Stupid last boss without any kind of story development; -Its a game intended for newbies in RPGs.
CC: -Even easier than CT; -No experience points; -Lame battle system; -Boring boss battles; -Horrible storyline; -No character development; -Too many stupid characters (c'mon, a pink dog?!?)
BUT let me add that I don't hate them. Both games have some nice qualities, specially Chrono Trigger (I LOVE time travels). I just don't think they are special in any way. I recomend them for newbies in RPGs only.
