I've been using magic iso to make isos from my PS cds. It's pretty easy to use and useful but I haven't used that many iso creating programs to really tell you what the best one is.

ISOBuster is good too, but it has a price tag (trial version is available). There is good free software, but I can't remember them. I'm sure someone will state them soon.

Is CDRWIN really free? There's a Ordering page and prices at the official site.

I use a combination of alcohol 120% and MagicISO myself.

I prefer Alcohol 120% (which means I get img/ccd files and thus use Daemon Tools for drive mounting).

It is not really free. I shouldn't say that, sorry. But anyway, it is only on 1x speed and it is more accurate and rip/burn it even more better. I had it for a years and it's great.

CloneCD with a plextor dvd drive would probably give you the best results
although lite-on drivers have better error correction for cd media
for pal games you need the subchannel data that only cloneCD copy's
