That totally sucks, but I'm not really surprised. I wonder if SmartJoy will survive this, Liksang is the only place I've seen their adapters sold. Full news item here

The Sony of today should go to hell. Seriously, they do nothing but talk big about PS3, and fumble the ball when it comes to PR.

Come, come, Ultima, they do lots more than that. They put illegal software on people's machines that renders them vulnerable to hackers, in the name of copyright protection - not to mention ripping off other people's software to do it.
Then there were a couple of Playstation emulators that they put out of business with expensive litigation. The courts found for the emulator producers, but the cost of defending their cases put one out of business and left the other with not much option but to sell out to Sony.
Yes, very productive company, Sony.

Yeah, I know, and that was all part of the PR stuff comment (or at least I had those in mind when I mentioned PR ). At this point, in my eyes, Sony is just another garbage company. Edit: Heh was browsing bash.org...

They'd probably have bullet-proof glass anyway...

I'm not going to get into the argument of the evils of this company or that (although the comments here are pretty tame compared to some other places I've seen), but this is no surprise, nor is Sony the first company to use such tactics.
Won't be the last, either.

Of course, it isn't the first and won't be the last. It just totally blows because Liksang was by far the best importer I've had the pleasure to do business with.
So say we all.

LOL... I've seen some pretty stupid things from major companies, but this?! I saw the announcement on Stepmania the night before this thread was made, but it didn't explain why they shut down. Shame on Sony! I guess they were afraid of losing .0000001% of their profits from European customers buying Asian versions of the PSP (which I can only imagine would be cheaper there, else there wouldn't be any problems, right?).
I wonder if Sony realizes that this action will cost them a lot more profits than if they had left Lik-Sang alone...
And isn't it funny how that works? It can be safely said that most of the time that a company goes after a relatively harmless company doing legitimate business, they lose probably a hundred times more profits than if they just let the business continue on uninhibited. They like to put out that image of "zero-tolerance" for infringement on their "rights", but every time that they do this, they only hurt themselves.
They should spend a little less time hurting themselves like this and a little more time on the products they like to push on us. Maybe spend that time and money working out a few more bugs, or improving something. Something that will bring a boost to their profits through people *liking* what they're doing.
I'm not a Sony hater. Not at all. I buy Sony CD-R's and DVD-R's, my $200 stereo was made by Sony... and just as the PS2 was the first and only last-gen system I bought, the PS3 will be the first current-gen system that I buy. This Blu-Ray thing... I'm sure it'll be ok. They've already started making movies in DVD and Blu-Ray format (at least, I keep hearing on the TV "Now available on DVD and Blu-Ray"). I just hope that things don't end up the same as they did with Nintendo. Nintendo... I eventually gave up on. Many of the reasons I used to love the Nintendo systems are now the reasons I bought the Playstations (1, 2, and eventually 3).
My friend said that Microsoft got some rights to Square-Enix (as in, they're gonna be having Final Fantasy on the 360 at some point). Not sure how full of crap he was (he is wrong about 90% of the time), but I'll have to look into that.

Hm, I haven't heard much since I read rumors about Square Enix with Microsoft, but I do believe they're making some other game for XBOX 360.

They already put the FF11 out of X360, not exactly a rumor anymore.

Well I meant (and I'm pretty sure GM also meant) a *real* Final Fantasy game I myself don't consider FFXI to be Final Fantasy, as it's missing a lot of what makes a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game -- the entire story itself.

Guessed as much, but it had to be said. There was an opening and ZING! At this very moment I doubt that we'll be seeing a multiplatform "real" FF game anytime soon. A possible spinoff maybe (ala Dirge of Cerberus), or a completely new game which has really nothing to do with FF games (ala Crystal Chronicles, which was essentially a Seiken Densetsu game rather than FF). You may argue that FF11 fits in this category as well, except that it's in FF world, so to speak, with chocobos and whatnots. Crystal Chronicles is just Seiken Densetsu game to the bone.
