Yeah, I even followed up on the hacks, and eventually found gameshark hacking for the PSX version that allows the in-battle models to be used otherwise also. All of this, very interesting to play with.

XP 1.4 patch right here, apparently: it.ffonline.it/modules/download/finalfantasydownload.php?sel=FF7&sottotipo=Patch&lng=enIt seemed too easy, but it seems to be true. What I mean is... I keep having this small feeling that all these sites with the 1.4 patch are wrong, and it's actually a 1.3 patch. It's probably just me being overly paranoid of believing anything on the internet, but either way, check it out, because there's an interesting hi-res patch there. I'll end up testing it once I dig out my game again (I stored it someplace after getting pSX, since I could just play my PSX version instead . Edit: I guess I can't be too skeptical... it was created about a half-year after the 1.3 patch, so it must be real. And apparently, there either was or is a 1.5 patch in the works, but never made it past beta. Maybe true, maybe not. Don't know, and probably don't care.

Yeah thats what I thought earlier when i was looking for the XP patch.
Seems the model replacement patch I was looking for was dead, but a new on emerged thats compatable with all patches. But development is on a vacation so it's only in the 3D environments now (IE world travel, Minigames, etc.).

I only played the demos so I don't know much about the port, but I have heard anyware that the PC version has a better translation of the script, correcting many translation errors from the PSX version. I think you can find some examples on wikipedia.

The script is exactly the same, as far as I could tell. I've played both versions extensively and always noticed the same text errors in both games. The only difference, besides the few bugs already mentioned here, is basically the graphics (both positive and negative differences).

For example, many player thought that Tseng died after his encounter with Sephiroth in the Temple of the ancient. This was one of the translation error that was corrected in the PC version.
I don't know the details, but look at the temple section and the Icicle Inn section.
There may be more.
EDIT: I finally got details
In the PSX version, Elena (in Icicle Inn) says: "But you really got guts doin' my boss in like that!", assuming that Tseng was dead which make his appearance in FFVII Advent children unexplainable. In the PC version, she said that Tseng has been messed up instead of done in, suggesting that he is still alive.

Ahh... so I see. Looking further into it, there aren't really too many differences as one would hope. And all the typos that I had noted while playing weren't fixed... that's just stupid. What's the point of making a few random re-translations when you aren't even going to fix the typos?
Oh, and funny enough, Elena's line in the PSX version is actually a more accurate translation of the line she said in the japanese version (apparently the most accurate translation possible). I guess it was less a translation problem and more just poor wording in the original japanese script.

be wary of those patches, expecially ones above 1.02. Most patches above that are either developed by individuals (which are ones you want), and others such as the XP patches, can do more harm then good. Some of those XP patches are horribly hacked patches that break things later on down the road. If you really want to find proper patches/inhancements, along with tools for you to use on your own, there is still one place that is still very active in this, for both 7 and 8 PC versions. Here is the link..... forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=4351.0Keep in mind, if you have a pirated verson (like the ultima edition of ff7), you are kinda SOL'ed then. If you really want to play psx games in hi res without really affecting gameplay, and if your GFX card supports pixal shader 2.0, then I recommend the Pete's openGL2 driver (V2.8) I have been using it for awhile and it works quite well. Keep in mind, if you over tweak it, the gfx will come out fuzzy looking.

There was one benifit to the PC version, a cardboard case where the cds kept falling out on to the floor. Even the playstation's greatest hits version didn't support that feature.
