Well, now here I am... asking any of y'all if you can help me. Here's the problem.
I took my ATI Radeon 9250 PCI 256MB card out of my old computer, and put it into my newer computer. Yup, I finally decided to move my better parts all into the new computer, as the old one isn't really used anymore. But... after installing the drivers, and going into my BIOS and setting the graphics card setting from "Onboard" to "PCI"... it still didn't quite work. Now mind you, everything works up until the login screen for XP. I get my BIOS screen, and I get the black screen with the Windows logo and the bar showing that Windows XP is loading. But when it tried going from that screen to the login screen, it stays black. At first the monitor would actually lose the signal (I have an LCD, and so it tells me when the signal is lost), but after downloading and installing the most recent drivers from ATI for this now-unsupported card, it apparently doesn't lose the signal, but the monitor still stays black. And I know Windows is starting up just fine, because I logged in during this problem, started Media Player Classic, and played a song, just to be sure that the computer was running ok.
I checked the control panel, and the drivers are installed exactly as they are on my other computer that is also running XP Pro. Here are the relevant specs for my computer that I can find/know so far.
Model: Compaq Presario SR1430NX
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2
Note that my old computer is also a Compaq, and it is one of those tiny ones that needs a PCI Extender just to have PCI slots. So it's definitely not a matter of power (as the newer one certainly has more than enough power to handle the card). Anybody have any ideas as to what may be going on here? I tried searching the internet a bit, but I find 10x more results for the PCI-Express card than anything relevant to the PCI card that I have.
