Who knows how accurate that database is either. It would be rad if there would be a community project to redump atleast a bunch of bioses and properly identify them at that very moment, take hashes and store the right info somewhere safe before it gets mangled by the interweb users. I have two Playstations myself, I think they are different models too, all I need is the equipment to dump the bios. Anyone know a place to get that stuff for cheap?  |

AIR you need a cheat device that plugs into one of the Playstation ports (serial or parallel) and can connect to a computer with a serial lead, and a Caetla utility. I did it myself many years ago when I started using ePSXe, but unfortunately don't remember much more than that. I think I still have the cheat device somewhere, although I've no idea where...
Edit: in case we do at some point get round to organising some wholesale BIOS ripping, how about people posting what Playstation(s) they actually have?
Mine's SCPH-5552.

Mine is SCPH-9001 - Check on my website of my playstation machine.
The only person that I think could dump our playstation BIOS is Guru. You don't need cheats device to dump BIOS. I bet Guru knows how to dump these in right way. I even bet Guru have the right tools to this. If we can ask him to dump the BIOS from our playstation then there might be a chance that we get better dumps.
I don't want to hear that cheats device is better than the right tools.

The point about the cheat device, kinghanco, is that it provides an interface to connect your Playstation to your computer. Without a connection to something that can run the necessary software and provide a repository for the dumped BIOS, how can you dump it?

But you can't find of those anymore. Those things hit the dust now. If you have one to sell then I will buy it from you.
The only way to dump the BIOS is to have Guru dump it for us.

Which completely misses the point of Mika's suggestion: that if we could build up our own database of personally dumped BIOSs, we'd have some that we could be sure were original, and not subject to the changes that the BIOSs found online may have been subjected to while they've been around.

If you really want to dump your BIOS, look here, kinghanco, you'll find links to all the software and methodology you need to dump your BIOS. It doesn't include hardware: the card offered for sale just looks like a parallel or serial port card, and most modern PCs still have parallel or serial ports - if they don't, neither will they have the ISA slot needed for the card... The hardware you need is a cheat device (a Gameshark or an Action Replay) that plugs into a serial or parallel port on your Playstation (depending on which ports your Playstation has: most seem to have both; the last Playstations only have a serial port and the PSP has none - out of luck there) and a link to connect it to your PC. Have a look on ebay or google for them; I'm pretty sure they'll still be available. |

Just forget it. I hate to lose my money over stupid cheat devise and that port that may not work at all on my computer. There is noway I will take a risk there.

Well, I notice you have an SCPH-9001 Playstation, which only has a serial port, kinghanco, so you'd have to make sure you got a cheat device with a serial port. But, apart from that, the instructions linked from that page are pretty straightforward.

I don't have one with a serial port wire. I only have a Gameshark CD with a black card that plug-in into the front.
Now if you saying that I only need the serial port wire and that port then I will buy both which will save me a lot time.
Edit. Guru just now turn me down. My post been deleted at the Mame forum. I guest he doesn't want to dump my BIOS.

I have a cheat device that I used to play import games way back when, I actually might have the cable as well. Have to dig around a bit.

The Gameshark CD is not what I'm talking about, kinghanco - this (I think it's the original Gameshark - the CD versions came later) is a cartridge that plugs into the serial or parallel port on the back of the Playstation and, among other things, has another port on it that enables you to connect to a PC via a serial lead. You'll also, of course, need a PC that has a serial port to plug into - all the PCs I've had have had serial (and parallel) ports, but I think some recent motherboards may no longer include them.
