Have any programmers ever attempted to make netplay code specific to one game, where for synchronisation only things like player locations and collision are sent over the network? That'd be better and more feasible than trying to synchronise RAM.
I've used plug-ins for ePSXe that enable netplay and every time I've played with a friend over the Internet the game goes out-of-synch. I'm not exactly sure how synchronistation is attempted there; maybe it's only button presses that are sent and received.
The most fun I've had playing a game with other people was with Crash Team Racing and I'd love to be able to play it over the Internet.
Is it likely that we'll see it happen in the near future?

Dunno, but if pSX Author intends on keeping game-specific hacks out of pSX, this most definitely isn't gonna happen in pSX. Could it happen elsewhere? Probably. Has it happened? Not that I know of, but then again, I don't really pay attention to things like this in emulation
