AFAIK pSX Author has no release schedule as such, usljoo; he releases versions when he considers they're ready. The general view on this forum seems to be that we'd rather not hassle him over things like this, because we'd rather he releases versions when they're ready, rather than setting a date and then having to release a version that might not be satisfactory because it isn't ready. Besides, that's the way he works: he's never announced a release date for any version before.

Why? I'm sure it would be nice to have regular updates on the progress of the next version, but first, I doubt that that's practical, given the uncertain nature of Playstation emulation and second, I think I'd prefer that pSX Author is able to spend his time working on the emulator rather than having to give progress updates.

And besides that... who's to say what makes a new version? He works on pSX when he can, and I'd assume he releases a new version when he feels that he accomplished something significant. Or maybe he sets a goal for himself that the next version will be ready when he accomplishes that goal. The point is... he very well may not be *able* to give an idea when the next version will be ready.
In any case, try not to worry about when the next version comes out. pSX is just a project of his... with how far it's come so far, I'm sure you can get plenty of enjoyment out of it as it is. New versions are pretty much a bonus. He could stop work on it any time he wanted, and there's nothing we could do about it except be thankful that he's done so much work on it in the first place.

You guys pretty much summed it up well. It's common knowledge (and just respectful) in the emulation scene to not to ask about release dates of emulators. It's out when it's out. Isn't that in our rules somewhere (looks to another admin)? If not, we should edit that one in.

Not just in emulation scene, but pretty much any (noncommercial) project that I can think of right now. When the development is done on free time, it's impossible to give any kind of ETAs. Life, work, family, among other things, generally come first. Sometimes there just isn't any time for anything else. And lets not forget that Author is but one man.

I don't see it in the rules, and second the idea of adding it. It's certainly important enough to warrant being mentioned in the rules, since as you said... It's a matter of respect. It'll be nice to be able to point people to the rules (and possibly this thread, if they really need to know why for some reason) when they ask foolish questions like this.

yes but he could at least give us a clue how far he has come. Version 1.13 is a nice clue on how far he has come. Also... -Zelda games: each game is made by 300+ people. They sell like water, and give TOOONS of money to Nintendo. Still, they are NEVER released when nintendo says it will be. They are ALWAYS delayed like hell; -Duke Nukem Forever: being made for more than 10 years, by almost 400 people. 3Drealms got rich because of Duke 3D (together with all their other games), still, no one knows when (or if) DNF will be released; -pSX: Made by one person. Its free, so the Author don't get a single penny out of it. He is still working in it, and he DOES post on the forum sometimes about what he is doing. He doesn't give us a release date, but if the almighty Nintendo and the great 3Drealms sometimes (always?) fail at posting real release dates (and their games are COMMERCIAL softwares), why (and how) would pSX Author give release dates for his hobby? I won't explain the reason behind my post. You just figure out your own conclusions.

Yes, I checked the rules before my first response to usljoo. I agree this should be added; I was just wondering whether it might not be better in your Known Requests post, GM? BTW I've just given usljoo another 1 week ban following a series of PM exchanges. psicomaniaco: I think usljoo might be the only person who might not be able to figure out your reasons: he really can't take a hint, can he?

And pSX author is working with PS2 emulation too. Just image "one person" with all this work to do

After due discussion, I've decided to permaban usljoo.

Why you ban him? What he do?

Because, on top of his previous rule-breaking on the forum, he sent me 3 PMs in which he broke several forum rules in full knowledge of what he was doing. Since he did this privately rather on the forum, I have to assume he didn't want them repeated; suffice it to say that they presented more than enough reasons to ban him.
Edit: FWIW I've added not asking pSX Author unnecessary questions like release dates to GM's Known Requests (DON'T REQUEST THESE!!!) thread - GM is happy with this. It goes without saying that there's no problem asking him reasonable questions; just not ones that are disrespectful and time-wasting.
And no, that had nothing to do with usljoo's ban.
