He's probably talking about MDEC. It's a name (or acronym) for the full motion video decompression engine inside the Playstation hardware. It also handles decompression of graphics into the VRAM.
To put it simply, it's responsible for playing movies.

Medc is what i ment, But the speed and sound is alot better whent its not used with pete's plugin, I will see if i can take a screen shot of my desktop with the best setings, they must be a program that can do this?, but like i sed i think the pSX could do with speeding up abit so the video and sound runs smover,

What you're talking about is the MDEC filter option in Pete's 3d accelerated GPU plugins. How that relates to improving the speed of pSX, which uses software rendering, I've no idea. Since as far as I'm aware there's no similar kind of filtering in pSX.
Again, MDEC is the full motion video decompression engine for the PSX. It plays movies. The MDEC filter option in Pete's plugin does just that, runs it through a filter to decrease pixelation.

I down't see the diffrence in Video but i do know when you down't use MDEC the video run smove and not jumpy, It dose run perfect with out MDEC, I do know this for the ePSXe emulator, But pSX is somewhat diffrent, I have tryed the new pSX 1.3 and the video in window loaded mode run perfect but fullscreen dose not, I ownly have a P3 599Mz pc mabe this is the problem?, But then again with the pete's plugin with my setings on ePSXe run perfect in fullscreen??, Download my pakage it has photos of the best setings, Click hear files.filefront.com/Useme4/;4855422;;/fileinfo.htmlDrwhojoe,

I thought the videos in PSX games _were_ MDEC videos?

They are, yeah. But much like there's MPEG1 videos and XVID videos, that's because the decoder (in this case a hardware decoder) is called the MDEC.
Speaking of MPEG1, it's said that the MDEC can decode those videos as well. I'm not exactly sure of that though.

curious what kind of speed you guys are getting and with what specs. I am running the emulator on a P3-1400/133 with 512MB ram and a Geforce 6800 GT. Running in a window with frameskipping disabled, I get a skipscore of 0. In full screen mode skipscore can reach 180 during MDEC playback, but I think this can be because the video mode pSX is using isn't running at exactly 60Hz. On a Celeron 1200 with Intel 810 on board video every game I tried was playable but with minor slowdowns here and there, for example on the ship select screen in R-Type Leo. -Sune

I'm having an speed issue in chrono cross... it slows down in battle transition and in the menu, but in the memory card selection it speeds up (??) this problem also happens in epsxe using Pete's software plugin (except for the memory card screen speed up) i dunno if my computer isn't capable of emulating this game with flawless speed or if it's the emulators that don't support so well my system... =( my specs: (i know they suck...) p4 1,8ghz (no HT =/ ) 512 MB ram nvidia gforce 5200 256 MB (most recent drivers) windows xp sp2 with directx 9.0c btw... i play final fantasy VIII with no problem at all, except for a small slow down (about 5 fps) when Edea uses maelstron, those who played the game know that this magic is the most "flashy" of the game, so perhaps it's my computer that sucks...
