Nice, mikereiner. Those old models are also supposed to be very good CD players as well - in fact, some hifi enthusiasts prefer them to many high-end CD players (if in good nick, of course!). BTW it's not a good idea to post large images as you have: first of all, it forces the page wider, making it hard to read because people have to scroll - even with my browser maximised on a 1600 x 1200 display, I can still see only about 3/4 of each of your images at a time - not very practical! It also means that the page will take forever to load for those on a slow connection, or for everyone if your host isn't that fast. Much better idea to post thumbnails: most image-hosting sites, including ImageShack, certainly give you options to do this. Then the page isn't distorted and loads normally, and people have the option whether they want view such large images or not.

Unfortunately the drive is not in the best of shape. The first time I tried to load up MGS it failed, second time it took quite a while.
I tried playing an audio cd on it and it worked fairly well, no skipping.
I had heard that these were favored by audio enthusiasts.. but, why? whats so special about this playstation?
I mean, the drive isn't even all that reliable, my SCPH-9001 works beautifully still after countless hours of usage.. Friend of mine had an SCPH-1001 die after just a few years.

www.destructoid.com/playstation-1-the-audiophile-s-dream--32269.phtmlI recently was working in a Hobby Store in Indiana, we had one of the SCPH-1001's going for about $10-$15, thought about picking it up but I don't really use Audio CD's anymore. We had some other great deals like the misprinted edition of FF7 (went for $30), Final Fantasy Tactics Greatest hits edition (went for $15) and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (went for a measly $2). Too bad I never picked any up myself.

I can understand that higher quality audio can be achieved through straight up RCA jacks as opposed to this silly proprietary nonsense that these companies keep going with, but what about the CD player it's self? I mean, how can it compare to some of these high end CD players that enthusiasts buy? I'm no audiophile, but honestly I think the cd player I have on my stereo sounds better. it's a Pioneer PD-4350, manufactured back in the 80s.
Wish I could get my hands on a good copy of FF7, all I have is 3 discs in white sleeves (disc two being so scratched that at one point the game just locks up) Granted I DID get it for $10..

Cool find, and I made the images into URLs for user bandwidth.
