Hey guys, im new to the whole emulator thing, a couple days ago I downloaded epsxe and spent half a day trying to get it to work. I wasnt able to so i downloaded psx and that was able to play FF9 up until the evil forest. Then all of a sudden I couldnt do anything. The black box behind the psx screen says 'driver not read' over and over again when i attempt to go to menu, or leave the area. So then i played FF7. This worked all the way through midgar and then i got to the world map and the same exact thing happened. If anyone has had this problem or might know what I did wrong any help would be much appreciated.

ok i just read something about using save states may be causing my problems, so i went to config/memory cards and created 2 slots, if i save at save crystals and use these memory card slots, will this stop this from happeneing again? or is there something else I need to do to make these memory card files work

It's true that it's not a good idea to play entirely on save states, gopack, but I'd have said this is happening too early in the the games to get save state corruption.
How are you playing the games, from the CDs or from images and, if from images, what format?

This may well be your problem, gopack: the .iso format is unsuitable for many Playstation games, as it doesn't support multi tracks.
.bin/.cue supports multi tracks, but not subcode reading, so is unsuitable for protected games. The best formats are CloneCD's .ccd/.img/.sub and Alcohol's own .mdf/.mds ones: Alcohol 120% will rip to both of these.
You need to re-rip your CDs to one of these formats.

ok so i already got past the point where it messed up using the iso image i used before and memory card saves. I re-ripped my disc into a ccd format, did I screw up again by using my old iso? or can i start psx load my ccd iso and use the game save i have now (im in kalm right now) Thanks for your help

I read what i wrote and it sounds pretty confusing, here is a timeline: -regular iso image/got to world map using save states-froze -read about memory cards/created memory cards/replayed game using memory cards and am currently at kalm -read your post about using ccd instead of regular image/created one/wondering if i have to play through midgar all over again

Save states are not portable, gopack - sometimes they won't even work between different versions of the same emulator.
However, memory card saves are portable, even between different emulators. It doesn't matter what format the image is. The only restriction is that the saves need to be for the same version of the game - i.e. same region and video standard - and even these can usually be hacked easily.
