I just purchased this off of Amazon and got it in the mail a couple days ago. It's a wonderful game so far although I only have one minor gripe and that is the camera.
Capcom did an excellent job in optimizing this game for PC, I get playable frame rates with minor slowdowns in some areas on my ancient/almost ancient hardware,
Currently playing with shadows and textures on high, with quality on low and resolution at 640 x 480 and am getting decent speeds. The game is bucket loads of fun and the boss fights are quite interesting. The story is quite good as well, I've never tried the Devil May Cry games before, but something about DMC4 grabbed my interest, so I took a dive and purchased it, best purchase to date for a PC game.
This is finally a port done right and has excellent performance as mentioned above, this is finally a breath of fresh air for PC games with the barrage of RPG's, MMORPG's, Strategy and FPS games the PC constantly get. The PC genre really needed a hack n' slash game and that is where DMC4 comes in. Yes it's true the PC had DMC3, but according to what I've heard it's quite a terrible port compared to the PS2 version.
The only downsides I can think of are the camera angle and the sheer amount of times boss fights are recycled, still a fun game though.
The final boss is harder than holy heck, but I managed to beat it and the game and am now playing through legendary dark knight mode.
My system isn't all that great and manages to run DMC4 quite decently. I am currently playing with shadows on high, quality low and the resolution set to 640 x 480.
My system specifications are an AMD64 x 2 3800+ @ 2.0 Ghz, 1 GB of ram, and a Geforce 6150LE.
I manage between 15 - 28 FPS with it never really dipping lower than that which is quite playable at the settings I listed.
For some reason the game runs much better with shadows on "high" rather than turned to "off", it also seems to have better performance and run much better under Vista than XP.
I currently run XP64 Professional SP2 and Vista64 SP1.
