Game Title: Silent Hill Game ID(s): SLES_015.14 pSX Version(s): 1.13 I've completed this game from start to end and I discovered some glitches never mentioned before: Let's start with the already know glitch. The fade out problem, when Harry is running it leave a trail that the should fade out, but psx don't do that. The result is this ugly grid-like path. img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=shas9.jpgThen there is this new glitch. When you enter in the inventory screen and look carefully on Harry's status, you'll notiche the coloured part which came out are overimpressed on Harry's face, the part where's shadow (black) are missing, the real effect should be like this (Emurayden). img366.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sh2vh8.jpgimg504.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sh5oq7.jpgEach time you open a door, change room, open the inventory, ecc... appears this grid pattern. The game should fade in black and then going into real game grapich. img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sh3sx8.jpgAnother grapich glitches is when there are some particular screens when there is an animation that change (such as unlocking the padlock, ecc...). Here's what happens: first image, everything it's fine; second image, some areas turn black. img266.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sh6ka4.jpgimg266.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sh7kr8.jpgOther than, the game appears to run nice.

Unless I'm completely mistaken, the "grid pattern" is always there, it's just more subtle most of the time. If I recall right, it's got something to do with g-shade dithering or some such. You can't see it on a regular tv or epsxe for that matter, because of how they work.

Indeed, Silent Hill has been previously reported to have these odd looking grid patterns because of dithering. ePSXe doesn't actually do any dithering (at least according to pSX Author's observations).
Edit: Could always be a plugin issue (settings or otherwise) on ePSXe -- dunno.

Since I have no clue what dithering is, is there anything in terms of settings that can be used to fix this issue or perhaps tone it down a bit?

Nope, dithering is controlled by the game, and application of dithering is an inherent part of the PlayStation that should be (and as we can see, is) emulated. Dithering is basically used for color mixing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dithering#Digital_photography_and_image_processingI'm thinking the result from dithering looks better under a TV, which is why few people noticed it on the real hardware, why so many people notice it under a computer monitor, and why a NTSC filter like Blargg's might be useful.

I call it the swiss cheese effect in Silent Hill because of how it looks like in the loading screen with harry running. As in, the parts that are supposed to fade but don't, look like they are full of holes.
