Probably a good idea to ensure that your chipset drivers, DX installation and videocard drivers are up-to-date, kristianity77.

Version 1.3 works fine tho. Same thing happens to me but only when switching from full screen back to windowed mode. The main display window goes black and the same error message appears and keeps repeating. Sound starts repeating as well. My video card is a Geforce2 Titanium with Forceware 61.77 drivers. DirectX and other drivers are the latest available.

Geforce2 generation cards are not supported since Forceware version 7x.xx something.
And the other poster has an ATI card, so I figure is isn't a video card driver problem.
Thanks anyway though!

There is still newer versions, WIN 2K/XP and WIN 9X/Me. And if you don't have any of those OSes, do a regular driver search and click on the "Supported Products" Link on the left, and check around the bottom of the page. :EDIT: Sune Salminen, It's still a video problem, so checking the video card's driver is the first thing to do. :EDIT 2: Sune Salmien, Only Half of the GeForce2 Cards are not supported. Check the Supported Products list and see if YOURS is supported with the latest.

I also suffer from it, but ONLY in windowed mode. If I try to start it it windowed mode, I get the same error, If I start it in full-screen mode, it is fine, but if I switch to windowed, pSX crashes out, and this happened since 1.3 (1.3 AND 1.4 suffer from this problem).
I also have all of the latest drivers for my PC...
OS: WinXP Pro SP2 Proc: Intel 2.53Ghz/533FSB (no HT) sound: Soundblaster audigy gamer series GFX: ATI 9600 XT Mobo: Abit BE7 RAM: 768MB DDR

duh.
I "fixed" this problem by deleting my psx.ini file.
Something must have been left over from an earlier version that 1.4 didn't like.

Hmmmm, kristianity77, did you uses the same psx.ini file from 1.3? If you did, delete it like Sune Salminen. No promisses but this has been effecting quite a few people. Even with other emulators, and older configuration files.
