So why don't you tell us how you're trying to create memory cards, orangesport? Maybe we can see where you're going wrong.

I make a blank text file and rename it to .bin, Metal gear solid sees the file but says error.
Thanks

Oooooh...! The pain...! That is not how you create a memory card, orangesport. I suggest you take note of Ultima's post.

Click the [...] then enter a filename and click ok, it will create a memory card.
Would have been faster to just tell him, that makes the board to look like ngemu.
Why not just replying with RTFM then... Could sound more geek and all.
People are willing to use the emulator, why not be nice, even if you answer the question 5 times a month, it is still nicier and faster to tell them than to blame them to read the FAQ.
He just wanted to play, not the read a whole faq and such. I'm not sure you read the manual of Microsoft word and then read the faq at microsoft.com to know how to use it. You ask question.
It is faster, nicier and people then wants to come back because people are nice...

You're right in a way ZeXr0, we should just answer the questions quickly just to solve the problems and to not beat around the bush but sometimes it just gets annoying to answer the same things over and over again. It would have been quicker to just answer the question in this situation. Some people here just sign up so they can get quick help on one problem and they're on their way. They don't plan to be regulars and commit to the forum like the rest of us and don't want to read some of the really long important threads here just for one problem. So I can understand what you're saying in that respect. But the fact is, is that when you go to any forum, you should take the time to read all of the important info first. They're made for a reason y'know? On a side note, I don't see what the confusion is all about though. When I first used pSX, I automatically figured out how to make my own memory card even though there wasn't any "create" button and I didn't need to rtfm either. Oh and if you plan to be a regular here orangesport, make sure you check out all of the important threads (hint: they're in my sig ) just so you can be on the safe side here.

ZeXr0: - So you think we're just trying to be elitists and just general pain-in-the-asses?
- You're saying the hard work put into the FAQ should just go wasted because people should just be given quick answers?
(Hint: They'd get their answers more quickly if they actually read the documents instead of waiting around for people to answer, so saying it'd be faster if we answered him directly is hardly a relevant argument at this point)
- How hard is it to look for the word memory in the FAQ using the browser search?
Whether or not people want to be regular forum browsers, and regardless of the size of the forums, the things we've written are FOR the forum lurkers' convenience. And there's a fundamental difference between reading a manual, and reading a FAQ -- a manual is supposed to be all-encompassing. Does a FAQ strive to be the same? NO. It's there for the commonly asked questions, and if you have a question regarding operation, VERY often, it's been answered in the *gasp* FAQ (gosh, I guess that's what frequently asked questions stands for). A FAQ is a targeted document, so comparing it to a general document like a manual is like comparing apples to oranges. Asking to be spoon-fed answers before at least *showing* that you tried looking around for the answer first is not cruise control for cool. At this point, it's fairly clear orangesport didn't look around very much. It'd be fine if he read/misunderstood the FAQ, but again, that slight attempt isn't even displayed. Want another reason why I tell people to look in the FAQ? To get them used to actually looking around for answers. To let them know the FAQ has plenty of information that they might not have known about before. Are we just going to feed answers to people all day, or are we going to teach them to actually learn? If reading a simple FAQ is too much for someone, how could they survive in society? I realize a forum isn't some kind of Society 101 course, but seriously, you have to read everywhere you go, and I don't see why these forums need to be an exception. Sorry if it seems like I'm flying off the handle right now and making a big deal out of nothing, but seriously, the FAQ is here to help people, not just another way for us to brush people off. Ever wonder why it's in a centralized thread in the Important Information forum? I never understand why people can't see that. [/off-topic-rant] orangesport: In case you're wondering, this post isn't a display of hostility toward you (or anyone for that matter), just a rant/response to the semi-off-topic-ness in this thread.

But orangesport is not a new member in terms of time - he's been a member for 5 months, longer than you, ZeXr0. He's also made 10 posts - that's not a large amount, but it means he's been around the forum enough to know where to look for basic information. And he clearly hasn't bothered to read the FAQs even after Ultima suggested he should.
TBH, I had considered linking to the post in the FAQ about creating memory cards, but decided it was obvious enough - which it is.

There was a comma between 'months' and 'longer,' Ultima. That is, what I said was 'he's been a member for 5 months' _and_ 'he's been a member longer than (you) ZeXr0,' not that 'he's been a member for 5 months longer than ZeXr0.'

Thanks you ZeXr0 for your quick answer, that was very helpful and I made my memory card with glory ;D, TheCloudOfSmoke I also think your comments are valid on this matter also.
Now Ultima there was no need for what you had to say, if you dont want to help little questions like this then I recommend that you dont even bother looking in at little question threads, yea and I have been a member for 5 months or so but I dont come in here everyday 24/7 and rip on people for not reading the FAQ.
At the end of the day I just wanted to load up pSX authors mint emulator with no hassle and play my games, is that to much to ask !!!

I'm afraid I think Ultima is perfectly correct, orangesport. This is not a commercial emulator, it has been given to you free of charge, despite all the work pSX Author has put into it.
Similarly, the advice and help you may receive on this forum is provided by the members in their own time; nobody gets paid for this, or any reward apart from the pleasure of a great emulator and the comradeship of the forum.
So when people can't even be bothered to save other people a little bit of trouble by trying to find the answers themselves first (and for something like this, it's pretty easy), and when you're the umpteenth person to do this without having bothered, you'll sometimes get replies like this.
Personally, I would think myself stupid and rude going on a forum of this kind and expecting other people to do for me what I should be doing myself. I would also _expect_ to be flamed for taking the lazy way.
And you're not even a newbie. You've been around the forum for a while and should know better - fair enough, you don't come here every day, but it looks like you've been here more than enough to know how it works.
Edit: and the bottom line is that you should not be disrespecting Ultima, who is an administrator here and, in my estimation, one of the two most helpful people on this forum (the other being pSX Author, of course).
