I just had to start one like this. Name your favorite RPG games here, from any system... that includes RPG/Adventure, RPG/Strategy, etc.
As a small start, I have a few games I'd like to mention. Fire Emblem 4 (SNES), Final Fantasy V (SNES), Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX), Bahamut Lagoon (SNES), Suikoden IV (PSX)... I have many more, but I'd rather give the floor to the rest of y'all.

I don't know if this is the right place to say something like that, but, anyway, I don't like RPG games... However, since every video game forum I go is full of posts concerning the best RPG games of its platform, I ended up knowing a little bit of the most commented ones... Alright, but in fact, there is a RPG game that I like and actually own it - Dragon Crystal (SMS). Maybe it's easier than other older platforms' RPGs (I don't know, I haven't finished any other RPG to establish a fair comparison), but I still like it a lot. And, by the way, I don't like Phantasy Star very much (¬¬) - that's all about the game style; I know that if liked the genre I'd probably find it good.

Suikoden IV... indeed PS2, not sure why I put PSX. I might've been thinking Suikoden I, which is another that I love.
I most definitely have to agree with the Star Ocean games. The first one was awesome, and the second and third just got better.
Grandia 2 I played (and beat) first on Dreamcast, then PS2, then the PC. The Dreamcast version was of course the best, as it didn't have the horrible graphical bugs of the PS2 version and the less buggy PC version. Actually, I have to say that I love all the Grandia games. I've played all 4 of them, and while Grandia Xtreme got a little repetitive in the beginning with those elemental dungeons, it did get better. The other three I had no problems playing and thoroughly enjoying.

Some of my favourites are: Xenogears (PS1), Chrono Trigger (SNES), Chrono Cross (PS1), Tales of Phantasia (SNES), Lunar 1&2 (PS1), Breath of fire 1&2 (SNES), Breath of fire 3&4 (PS1), Star Ocean 2 (PS1), Dragon Warrior 7 (PS1), Arc the Lad 1-3 (PS1). I like most RPGs though to be honest

Hmm... I'd have to second all of those except Chrono Cross... which reminds me that Chrono Trigger (SNES) and the Arc the Lad Collection (PS1) should've gone on my top favorites (especially Chrono Trigger). Oh, how I wish Squaresoft hadn't canned the fan-remake that was being done for the N64. While I understand Squaresoft's legal rights to do that, they probably cost themselves a bunch of fans *and* money (since a remake of a game not made/sold anymore (since they get no money from E-Bay sales and such) could only generate *more* interest in buying Squaresoft's games, not less...).

I guess my all-time favourites must be the Ultima series of games, most notably Ultima IV (wow! What an idea! You've got to be good! _Really_ ground-breaking at the time...) and the Ultima Underground games.
Phantasy Star on the Master System was great, although I never really warmed to any of the sequels.
After that, Wild Arms on the Playstation and, getting into emulation, Chrono Trigger on the SNES and then the Playstation and, of course Chrono Cross (ahem, GM!). And Wild Arms 2.
Can't say I've ever been that keen on the Final Fantasy series; I've played most of the older ones (some quite far along but never finished), but the only 'modern' (i.e. FF VII+ Playstation/graphics) one I've played is FF VIII. Doesn't grab me.

kiru: It was *originally* for the N64... it was eventually scrapped (due to lack of experience), and a fresh start (called Chrono Trigger: Resurrection) was started a few years later. And actually... that game was being made for PC primarily, with ports also being done to GameCube and XBox. That is how it is. I just sometimes forget that people won't get the reference so well if I say N64-remake (my dislike of the GameCube leaves me to think N64 in my head, although I know better to be technical... it's a quirk of mine). patrickp: You bring up a slew of good games. I guess Chrono Cross was just a game that began to irritate me. I tried playing again, but got as far as controlling my character, which is when I opened my menu, and recognized what turned me off the first time I played. So... I just find it really hard to bring myself to play the game. Between the messed up element system and the item creation system, there was enough irritation for me to stop playing. And don't get me wrong... I *love* anything in a game that allows customization (usually for me... the more the better), but there was something I can't recall about Chrono Cross's customizable capabilities that had irritated me at the time. If I end up feeling motivated enough, I'll play through the game a bit again and figure out more specifically what bothered me so much.

GM, I don't get what you mean by "messed up element system and the item creation system?"
And, castilho, yes, Ys was a really fun game - think I played it on the Master System first, but I've played it through on PC as well, I think.

castilho: I know how you feel about being so into it. I only put a few games, but if I had to list all my favorites nobody would want to read it (I have *way* too many)... Then again, it makes sense since I decided to start this thread patrickp: The use of elements accumulating upon consecutive use in battle wasn't bad, but threw me off a little. And as I recall, there was some elaborate method of creating or modifying items/weapons in the game. I can't exactly recall, but I recall it involving material-type items, among other things. I love Star Ocean games partly *because* of the item-creation capabilities, but something about the system in Chrono Cross didn't take with me. Maybe it was too tedious (something you'd normally never catch me say) or something. Like I said, I'll have to play it again to remember more exactly what it was. Don't worry, I'll tell you when I find out again.

@gm: ah, you must be referring to Rainbow or Prism weapons/armour/helmets - it's something of a parallel to creating the Rainbow and Prism armour/helmets from the Rainbow Shell in Chrono Trigger. But that comes fairly late in the game, as it does in Chrono Trigger. PM me if you want to know more about it; I don't think it's fair to give away too much about the game, even though it's not hard to find out now.

Meh... it wasn't something that complex. This was something that I was growing tired of shortly after first reaching the parallel universe. Don't worry... I'll play the game tonight and let you know what it was that bothered me. It may not even bother me anymore (maybe just something I didn't like at the time).
