Error message in Tomb raider 1 original disc.
PSXfin.exe
IoConrtol: retrying (1) IoControl: raw read error, Data error (cyclic redundacy check).
Same on Psx screen with Memcard and happens on the CD PLAYER.
Dose this have somthink to do with older games with Music?.
It works on the PSX 1.6.0 with music.

Raw read CD mode is really only a fallback when no other drivers work, you might have better luck trying to install ASPI.
If you have Nero try copying wnaspi32.dll into the pSX directory, then selecting ASPI mode in the CD options....

Yesh, this game plays music all the time. It has CDDA tracks (you know, external audio tracks).
Not only that, but some dialogs are also CDDA. If you can't hear musics, you won't hear the dialogs (like at the end of stage 4.

Actually, you don't need to have Nero to get their wnaspi32.dll; it's offered as a free download on their site, although only for use with Nero itself... Be sure to get the right version for your OS.

AFAIK Nero's ASPI versions are their own - and generally better considered than most others, particularly the originators of ASPI, Adaptec.
I have found ForceASPI 1.7 to be favourite for Windows 9.x OSs, though - but not NT ones.

If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, drwhojoe, go to the Nero site and look for wnaspi32.dll (make sure you get the right one for your OS). Don't use ForceASPI; it doesn't seem to work for NT based OSs. Or, for W2K or XP, use the copy of wnaspi32.dll you have on your Nero CD. The one on the Nero site may be more recent, though.
If you're using Windows 95, 98, 98SE or ME then do use ForceASPI 1.7. It uses the standard Adaptec components, but installs the full version rather than the crippled one that the Adaptec installer does.
Edit: The difference between Nero's wnaspi32.dll and ForceASPI is that ForceASPI, on Win9.x OSs anyway, installs an ASPI layer for your system, which will be available for all applications.
With wnaspi32.dll, for W2K and XP, you don't install it as such, you put a copy in the folder(s) of the applications you want to have access to ASPI, and only the applications you do that for have that access.

Did you remove each ASPI version properly before you tried the next one, drwhojoe?
If the Nero version didn't work with other versions properly removed, I would suspect the problem is with your CD, or with your CD/DVD drive.

The only way I have managed to emulate this game is to run it as an image. Try that and see if works.

If it's a problematic game and you want to play from an image, I'd definitely recommend CloneCD's .ccd/.img/.bin format rather than .bin/.cue, drwhojoe.

If you use a mds/mdf (Alcohol), CloneCD or cue/bin image you do get the audio tracks but not if you use an iso format. I run every game I have from cue/bin images and haven't been haveing any problems except for the usual incompatibilities everyone else is saying they have using the real discs.
Thinking about it some more... exactly what are you using to image the disc because I've never heard anyone complain about not being able to rip the audio tracks?
