No problemo. My hunch all along has been that a LOT of the users signed up during the time the forums were in "private" mode, just to keep up with the news, anyway. Edit: Hm, both of you just disappeared after I posted this... I guess I'll just go ahead with deleting Edit: That's it? 70 people? I think we should drop the threshold to 90 days instead... exactly 100 more members to prune, it's still a reasonable threshold, and it isn't that hard to recreate an account anyhow xD

Well, you have to think in terms of versions. Only 60 days ago, we were at v1.5. The fact that we're up to v1.8 means that people who actually come on here or even continue to use the emulator would've logged in sometime in the last 60 days if they were *ever* going to. So I'd say that even 60 days would be a good threshold to use. 90 days is really being too generous when you think in those terms (which make the most sense).
If you really don't like that threshold, how about at least using it for any people who have posted less than 5 times or so and haven't logged in for the last 60 days. Pretty much get rid of the one-question people who you can be fairly certain aren't going to login in again.

Fine 90 days seems appropriate.

What about people who have 0 posts and haven't logged in for the last 30 or 60 days? Those people seriously need to be removed. And I still think 90 days is too generous, considering the leaps the emulator has made, many bugs and fixes happening in that same time.

Well for now its 90 days and that brings the count down to 695. Member Pruning Topic, I had to make a news announcement at least.

Or, you have their email addresses - why not ask them if they want to stay on the forum? If they don't reply, they don't want to stay... Just because people don't post doesn't mean they're not interested in the forum, or don't want to be members. I lurked here for a month or two before I signed up and started on the long path to apotheosis... and de-apotheosis...

Yeah, maybe I'll do it for the rest.

patrickp: Yeah, but that's just the point. Signing up is for the point of posting. So signing up and not posting means your account is useless and should be deleted. I think it should be listed somewhere that an account will be deleted after 60 or 90 days if there is no activity in that time, since we're going through with this deletion process. And really, I still don't think it makes any sense to keep members that haven't posted even *one* post and haven't logged in for 60 days at most. They're 99% sure to never come back. Sending e-mails I think would be too much trouble (even mass-sending). It'll just motivate people who never intend to post here again to login in just to keep their account, and *then* never post again. You know a lot of people are like that.

patrickp: Too much work @truth: Eep, I deleted 70 accounts before you deleted however many you deleted, and never bothered to copy the names down... and um, how'd you delete more than 100 members? Did you include people who have posted? Edit: Hm, nevermind, noticed you said not everyone's listed.

Hehe... I still remember that "what a D U M B A S S you are, pSX Author!" guy from some months ago... That'd be the kind of user that you'd delete with your eyes closed... well, if he was an actual user.

Erm, we now appear to have a total of 695 members... Looks like you two have managed to oust 305 members altogether - and that's not including anyone who's joined since this thread started... Or maybe they just got scared and legged it! Hehe... I still remember that "what a D U M B A S S you are, pSX Author!" guy from some months ago... That'd be the kind of user that you'd delete with your eyes closed... well, if he was an actual user. Remember what it used to be like when guest posting was allowed?

Oh man, I remember that Dark Knight/Amba. What a nuisance he was. I wished that I could have gotten the satisfaction of banning him and say one of those really memorable pre-banning last words.

I personally don't like dealing with having to ban people... if they're vengeful enough, they'll come back on a proxy, and that's the part I especially hate =T

Ahh... but that's where the game gets interesting. Then you make a request of someone like me to "take care" of the situation, and we do. And you never see them again. Simple.
Or you can team up on them on the forum, which is always fun to do to people who truly deserve it. Only problem is that the threads start to get a little out of hand during those times, so this second option is fun, but too sloppy.
