I'm going to leave the judging later, after I have actually tried it myself. To me, all these anti-vista rants are just that, rants. Same goes for pro-vista rants as well. I agree with you, but for some of us (myself included) that have tried the RC1 of vista, almost all of us agree, that vista is a waste of time, money and recources. again, opinions are just that, opinions. my opinion is that vista is overkill: in price, lag and gui.

Well if you think about it, Windows doesn't really change as much from version to version. Win 95 to Win 98 Kinda Leaves DOS, new hardware & software technologies and has a GUI Update. Win 98 to Win Me hardly uses DOS like stuff, again gets new hard/software technologies, and not much of a GUI update. Win Me to Win XP DOS support is almost gone, again new tech, and a GUI update. Kinda see where I'm going. Vista is like any other Windows version, a newer, fancier version.
Don't nail me on things I missed, I really don't know much of the evolution of the versions, but this is all of what I've noticed.

They likely make things *similar* so that they don't alienate long-time users too much, which probably explains why they don't deviate too much from the previous version.

Yeah, since Win95 the gui has stayed basically the same, but then again, why fix something if it isn't broken.

I've seen Vista called a OS X ripoff. Make of that what you will.

I call Apple stupid for stealing Microsoft's idea of instant desktop search and saying that Microsoft is ripping them off now just because Vista is coming later than OS X Tiger. Sure, they got it to market first before Microsoft, but by saying Microsoft ripped them off, they make it seem as if Microsoft stole the idea itself from them. Apple = teh lose.

Woooo!
It's late, but for those have yet to see the news, TV commercials, blogs, newsletters, newspapers, etc. Vista has been released to the masses (who can afford it).

This might be an interesting read to anyone who is considering shelling out the dough for it. And why not everyone else as well, I thought it was interesting. I have yet to test it or any of the release candidates, so I have no opinion on the thing itself.

I'm pretty confident that creative will get the drivers and software done soon, and complete the DSound(3D) wrapper*, ALchemy, for X-Fi, Audigy 4 and Audigy 2.
*Will not work on the Economy versions of the cards.

Heh to commemorate the release of Vista, I installed Ubuntu instead... Then busted my NTFS partition after screwing around with gparted... And ended up just installing Ubuntu without bothering with Windows ;D And yeah, Truth mentioned the sound thing here before.

(That was actually a reply to Mika -- wasn't meant to say that you're repetitive, if that's what it looked like )

Ah I'm sorta glad I'm not an audiophile -- it's one less thing for me to be picky about (and I can be picky about lots of things ;D). Anyhow, I still hold my previously stated opinion that I see nothing in Vista that's compelling enough for me to want to switch. Additionally, the fact that it's still new and big feels (to me) like using it now is just an extension of the beta testing -- everything came together for Vista near the end, and I just get the feeling that it lacks the polish (and possibly, the stability) for me to be able to use it as a full-time OS. The newly rewritten network stack has yet to be tried and tested as heavily as the old network stack, so until it can be shown that it's at least as secure as the old one, I'm hesitant about it (perhaps I'm just worried about nothing, but who knows). Anyhow, SP1 for Vista is due to be released later this year, and personally, that's when I'd start trusting it.

The problem that I found is one of the OCX files will not run at all.
This is Vista issue. I wasn't able to run Mamewah at all. It is broken because that one of OCX file can't be read.
Another problem is that I can't run make on Mame and ZSNES. Which it does kind of make me mad.
