Star Ocean uses the S-DD1 chip, which bsnes supposedly supports.

Everything seems to work fine with both games. Just a small graphical error on Star Ocean's title screen, but certainly nothing to get upset over. And... maybe it's just my imagination, but at the end of a battle in SO, it almost seems like the stuff coming out of the chest moves just a little slow, even though the emulator is going at a constant 60 fps. Otherwise... both games perform beautifully. And of course, a little heavier on the resources... lol.

Has anyone tried out Nestopia's awesome NTSC filter? It's simply amazing! I've been using Nestopia for a while now but I never messed with that filter until the other day. That filter is the closest that I've seen any emulator come to looking like a real TV. I wish more emulators could have a filter like that.

That Yoshi Island bug is interesting. I remember that level too. I'm kind of surprised that there isn't any (if there isn't any?) audio issues in that same level, considering that the effect of the fuzzies is both visual and aural. I should really find the time to give bsnes a shot. I mean, I don't have any problems with the requirements eventhough they are high as a kite. Also, the avatar... I broke the tradition with candy canes. Usually on more than one forum I frequent people add santa's hats on their avatar on christmas time, but I'm special. I also removed the gun in addition to adding the canes.

I think you'll find it interesting. I don't think it'll ever be better than ZSNES for the average user, but I think that with time, it'll probably be better than the Windows release of Snes9x (considering I don't think they'll be pursuing any further Windows releases if the last major release of Snes9x is any indication...).
But those requirements... yeah, they don't mean much to most of us with relatively decent computers, but... it's rather nice at times to be able to use an emulator and cruise the internet and talk on messengers (and maybe even listen to music) at the same time.

Nintendo: Nestopia > most accurate emulator and rom database Gameboy/Gameboy Color: VisualBoyAdvance > have not been able to find a better one Gameboy Advance: VisualBoyAdvance latest wip > although a little slower its more compatible and accurate SNES: BSNES > the most accurate snes emu, im very involved in its developement Nintendo 64: Project64 Nintendo DS: DeSmuME Sega Genesis/Master System/32X/CD/Game Gear: Kega Fusion Dreamcast: ChankastAlpha025 Sega Saturn: Satourne/SSF Playstation: pSX Playstation 2: PCSX2 Neo Geo Pocket: NeoPop Arcade/Neo Geo: Mame32 PS i would use MESS and MAME for all my emulation needs, but they still dont emulate a lot of stuff... Gamesoul master, why do you use MEka for Game Gear? Ps a new WIP has been released www.smspower.org/meka/wip/Back to Bsnes. all the games i play run fine on my athlonXP @ 2ghz thats with 4x enabled, i would love to use the NTSC filter but it breaks the sound. Bsnes is the most compatible snes emulator in existance, it doesnt use any hacks and plays every game ever made that doesnt use special chips except for 2. so the total list of incompatible games is 20, most of those suck horribly. for accurate emulation of specials chips someone should decapitate them and then put all the found information on a website so byuu can use it.

I use MEKA because I'm used to it... I've been using it for years. It's just... sentimental value. And it runs very well.
For bsnes... I refuse to accept that it runs *every* game not using the unsupported special chips. That has certainly not been tested, and no matter how well the code might've been written, there's always an unknown factor that could cause some games to not work. The fact that I've seen a couple graphical glitches in games that don't show these glitches in ZSNES... just further proves the theory. I think that bsnes still has a lot of work left to be done, even with how accurate and compatible it is now.
I have found that rew seems to run Gameboy/Gameboy Colour games better than VisualBoyAdvance, for one example.

Actually Bsnes had a test run done, all games ever released as rom where tested TWICE (by me and fitzroy), all games that acted wierd where tested on pal and ntsc hardware to verify if the bug was caused by emulation or by game coding. You wont believe how many games where programmed badly.(note that in zsnes and sen9x some of these games where incorrectly "fixed")
this testrun also resulted in 1 game being fixed in all actively developed snes emulators and a few other games being fixed in just zsnes.
those issues you saw have to do with the scanline rendering code that every snes emulator uses, Zsnes hacks these game's timing so that they appear to look okay.
Byuu is preparing his pixel based render which will fix all those issues and the last few non special chips games that dont work.
Fitzroy has a list of every game effect by the scanline rendering issue, and in the latest wip they all work fine, but the wip's are not public. The workaround is to render the scanline timings so that the broken scanline ends up in the non visable part of most games.
The public version your using still has about 10 buggy games in it.
also, some games are buggy themselves, take for example sim city, has crap on the left side, but this happens on the real console too, just hook up a snes to a good lcd and you will notice it.
which games exactly had graphic bugs?

okay so i tested > "Star Ocean (J) [!].smc"
completely bugfree in latest wip and 0.17public, no corruption on titlescreen and box items speed look normal to me.
But then it occured to me that you probably used a modified rom
So i tested this one > "Star Ocean (J) [T+Eng1.0_DeJap].smc"
And that version indeed shows corruption.
I did not have time to test on hardware, but it seems the translation patch depends on some emulation bugs to show the title screen correctly.

Tested original ROM with these stats, according to ZSNES: Type: S-DD1 INTERLEAVED: NO CHKSUM: OK VIDEO: NTSC BANK: LO CRC32: 3DBDFDBF Using this ROM in bsnes, I get this graphical glitch: Scanned the ROM with NSRT 3.3 Final with these results:

Remove this part. Snapshot is gone.
=================================================
I'm using data from No-Intro website. I quit using the NSRT because there will not be anymore updates on it database. Nach told me most of the people who help him left.

FWIW that link doesn't work if you click on it. You have to copy and paste it, as it checks referrers.

Confirmed fix. This latest WIP does indeed work. I'm debating whether to start testing all the other games too... XD
